Game of the week

p1_pirate.jpg

What: Pahokee (Pahokee, Fla.) vs. Glades Central (Belle Glade, Fla.)

When: Friday (Nov. 9) at 7:30 p.m. (EST)

Where: Glades Central

Outlook: One of the nation's most storied and intense rivalries continues on Friday night when Pahokee travels to play Glades Central in the Muck Bowl, named for swampy soil ("muck") that's abundant in the Everglades of western Palm Beach County, where the two schools are located.

Both programs are traditionally among the best in the state and have produced a number of top NFL players, such as Santonio Holmes and Fred Taylor of Glades Central and Anquan Boldin of Pahokee.

Pahokee (9-0) comes into the game ranked No. 14 in the SI.com Top 25. The Blue Devils, who won last year's Muck Bowl, are the defending Class 2B state champs and have won four state titles overall. They feature a number of the state's top seniors, including running back/defensive back Janoris Jenkins, wide receiver/defensive back Martavious Odoms, quarterback Anthony Sheppard and offensive lineman/defensive lineman Micanor Regis.

Meanwhile, Glades Central (9-0) won the Class 3A state title last year, its sixth state crown overall, and looks very strong this season despite the graduation of a number of top recruits, including wide receiver Deonte Thompson. That's thanks in part to junior quarterback Kentavious McCoy and junior linebacker Robert Ferguson.
