BENSALEM, Pa. (AP) Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome will return to racing in September, when the colt is set to run in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby.

He has been idle since finishing fourth in the Belmont Stakes on June 7, ending a six-race winning streak and hopes for the sport's first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

Trainer Art Sherman told philly.com on Thursday that he plans to use the Pennsylvania Derby on Sept. 20 as a tuneup for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita in November.

California Chrome spent five weeks resting on a California farm after the grueling Triple Crown campaign. He has returned to training at his home track of Los Alamitos in Orange County.
