Red Outlaw wins El Cajon Stakes at Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Red Outlaw led all the way in improving to 4-0 with a 3 3/4-length victory in the $100,500 El Cajon Stakes at Del Mar on Friday.
Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Red Outlaw ran one mile on Polytrack in 1:36.38 and paid $7.20, $4.60 and $3.40.
Toowindytohaulrox returned $5.80 and $3.60, while Conquest Two Step was another 2 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $3 to show as the 5-2 favorite.
The victory, worth $60,000, increased Red Outlaw's career earnings to $285,200 with his second stakes victory of the summer. He won the Real Good Stakes for California-bred 3-year-olds on Aug. 1 at Del Mar.
''I called it at the half-mile pole. I knew we were going to win it right there,'' Maldonado said. ''This is a really nice horse. And I'll tell you something else: he's going to be better going longer. He'll love it when we go long.''
