ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Air of Royalty won the $58,000 Cooper Canyon Purse for California-bred fillies by a neck at Santa Anita on Thursday.

Ridden by Agapito Delgadillo, the 10-1 long shot ran six furlongs in 1:09.70 and paid $23.20, $9.60 and $6.

My Monet returned $5 and $4, while Steel Lady was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.80 to show.

The victory, worth $34,800, increased Air of Royalty's career earnings to $78,340, with two wins in four starts.

After the third race, jockeys gathered in the winner's circle for a moment of silence in honor of 17-year-old apprentice jockey Juan Saez, who died Tuesday after a spill during a race at Indiana Grand Race Course in Shelbyville, Indiana. Saez never rode at Santa Anita, but he was known by several California-based jockeys and was considered to be one of the sport's up-and-coming riders.

A picture of Saez was posted on the track's infield video board. Track announcer Trevor Denman also noted the recent deaths of Australia-based jockeys Caitlin Forrest and Carly-Mae Pye.
