ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Two-time Eclipse Award-winning filly Beholder is out of the Breeders' Cup.

Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella says Beholder spiked a fever Sunday and won't run in the BC Distaff on Oct. 31.

Beholder is the defending champion in the Distaff. She won Eclipse Awards as champion 2-year-old filly in 2012 and champion 3-year-old filly last year.

Beholder is the second major defection from the Breeders' Cup. Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan was ruled out earlier this week from defending his title in the BC Mile on Nov. 1 because of an ankle injury.

Beholder has 10 wins in 15 career starts, and earnings of $3,368,300 for Kentucky-based owner B. Wayne Hughes, who races as Spendthrift Farm. She is scheduled to be sold in November.

Kentucky Oaks winner Untapable could take over the favorite's role for the Distaff.

Pre-entries for the Breeders' Cup world championships will be announced Wednesday.
