Preakness Stakes post positions: American Pharoah draws rail
Favorite American Pharoah drew the rail position for the 2015 Preakness Stakes at Wednesday's draw, while 7–2 stable-mate Dortmund drew the second position.
Firing Line, who drew 4–1 odds earlier Wednesday morning and finished in second place in the Kentucky Derby, drew the eighth and farthest outside position.
"With eight horses it's a different vibe here (than the Derby). I don't like being down on the inside, but we'll have to deal with it," trainer Bob Baffert toldYahoo following the draw results. Baffert trains both Dortmund and American Pharoah.
American Pharoah won the Kentucky Derby on May 2, while Dortmund finished third.
Several colts either dropped out of or never confirmed for the Preakness, contributing to the race's small field. Both sixth-place Derby finisher Materiality and tenth-place Derby finisher Carpe Diem will miss the race.
