Retired jockey Rosie Napravnik gives birth to boy

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Retired jockey Rosie Napravnik is a new mom.

She gave birth to son Carson Wayne Sharp on Monday in Louisville, Kentucky. He weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces. Both she and child are doing well, according to her husband, Joe Sharp.

Napravnik stunned the horse racing world last October when she announced she would be retiring after winning the Breeders' Cup Distaff aboard Untapable while seven weeks pregnant. She quit after riding in the second day of the world championships at Santa Anita.

Napravnik, 27, was one of the most successful female jockeys in racing. She won 1,877 races during her career.

Since retiring, Napravnik has helped Sharp, who is a trainer with his own stable based at Churchill Downs.
