After American Pharoah won the 147th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, Twitter was full of elated reactions to the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.
American Pharoah is the 12th Triple Crown winner in history. Jockey Victor Espinoza rode the horse to victory following wins at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness.
On Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., American Pharoah led for nearly the entire race after starting in the fifth post position.
With horse racing fans and even admirers of general interest eager for a taste of history, Twitter was predictably flooded with excitement after American Pharoah's victory.

I choose to credit the horse more than anyone else in this accomplishment. Owners, trainers, jockeys are great. But the horse did the work.— Don Banks (@DonBanks) June 6, 2015
