NEW YORK ( -- Padres outfielder Brian Giles has exercised his no-trade clause to veto a move to the Red Sox, the Boston Herald is reporting.

The Red Sox were looking to bolster their lineup with the veteran Giles, who is batting .295 with a .390 on-base percentage for the last-place Padres.

According to the Herald, Giles cited family reasons for not wanting to leave San Diego. Boston is one of eight teams Giles can veto a trade to, with Tampa Bay being one of the others.
