Brewers closer Trevor Hoffman, the all-time saves leader, is thought to be closing in on a deal to return to the team that's expected to be worth close to $8 million. A new contract is expected to be finalized within a week.

Hoffman, 42, saved 37 games in 41 opportunities in his first year in Milwaukee this year and was 3-2 with a 1.83 ERA.

"I think we're pretty close,'' Hoffman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He made $6 million this year.
