Free-agent catcher Rod Barajas is likely to join the Mets on a minor-league deal. Barajas is leaning toward taking New York's offer of a spring training invite for close to $1 million.

The Rangers are also looking for a catcher, and the Mariners might consider adding one as well. But the Mets' offer Barajas the best chance at significant playing time. Barajas will receive no guarantees about making the major league roster but will come in as the favorite to win the starting job over Omir Santos, Josh Thole and Henry Blanco.
