Gerardo Parra avoids arbitration with Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (AP) -- Outfielder Gerardo Parra and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a $2.35 million, one-year contract, settling the team's last salary arbitration case of the year.

He had asked for a raise from $502,000 to $2.7 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month, and the Diamondbacks had offered $2.1 million. The agreement was announced Tuesday.

The 25-year-old is expected to fill in at all outfield positions again this season. The strong-armed 25-year-old, a Gold Glove winner in 2011, has 37 assists since 2009, second to Hunter Pence's 47 among NL outfielders.

Parra hit .273 with 21 doubles, seven home runs and 36 RBIs in 133 games last year. He made 90 starts, 44 in center, 33 in left and 13 in right.

He is on Venezuela's roster for the World Baseball Classic.

Ramirez reaches deal with Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Reliever Ramon Ramirez has agreed on a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants, returning to the team he helped to win the 2010 World Series.

Bobby Evans, vice president of baseball operations, said Tuesday the right-hander is a non-roster invitee. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Scottsdale, Ariz., next Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Ramirez, who spent 2010-11 with the Giants, went 3-4 with a 4.24 in 58 outings last season for the Mets. His ERA was 112th among 135 big league relievers with at least 50 innings pitched. Ramirez was part of the New York bullpen that had a 4.63 ERA, 29th among the 30 teams and ahead of only Milwaukee (4.66).

Also, manager Bruce Bochy said his son, Brett, has received a spring training invite with the Giants. Brett is a right-hander in the team's minor league system.

Indians sign Santos

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Indians have signed free agent catcher Omir Santos to a minor league contract.

The 31-year-old Santos split last season with Detroit and Colorado. He batted a combined .310 with two homers and 30 RBIs in 61 games between Triple-A Toledo and Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Santos, who has played in 121 major league games since 2008, was called up by the Tigers last May and played in three games.

He appeared in 96 games for the New York Mets in 2009, batting .260 with seven homers and 40 RBIs. Santos was drafted by the Yankees in 2001.

Santos will be one of six catchers in Cleveland's training camp at Goodyear, Ariz.

Nationals sign veterans Snyder, Accardo

WASHINGTON (AP) The Washington Nationals have agreed to minor league deals with free agent catcher Chris Snyder and right-handed reliever Jeremy Accardo.

The Nationals announced the deals Tuesday.

Snyder, who turns 32 next week, hit .176 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs last season with Houston. He has also played for Arizona and Pittsburgh.

The 31-year-old Accardo was 0-0 with a 4.82 ERA in 27 games for Cleveland and Oakland last season. He previously pitched for San Francisco, Toronto and Baltimore.
