Playing DH, Derek Jeter got his first hit Sunday since beginning rehab in the minors.

MOOSIC, Pa. (AP) New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter singled and tested his surgically repaired ankle on the basepaths in his second rehabilitation game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

Working his way back from a twice-broken left ankle, Jeter was the designated hitter in rehab game No. 2 and finished 1 for 2 with two walks and a run. He will play shortstop for the RailRiders on Monday night.

Jeter walked in his first plate appearance and was erased on a double play before hitting a hard base hit through the hole on the left side of the infield his second time at-bat. He later scored on a home run.

After the second walk, he got a chance to run the bases for the first time. He went from first to third on a single to right field and slid into third base with ease.

The 39-year-old Jeter was 0 for 2 with a walk Saturday in his first game since breaking his ankle in the opener of the AL championship series October 13.
