Cardinals' David Freese leaves Game 3 with calf injury
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- St. Louis third baseman David Freese left Game 3 of the NL championship series in the fifth inning Monday night with tightness in his right calf.
Pinch-runner Daniel Descalso then made a major mistake in his place, getting doubled off second base to hurt a St. Louis rally.
After Freese advanced to second on Matt Adams' single, Descalso emerged from the St. Louis dugout to replace Freese.
The Cardinals failed to score in the inning and trailed 2-0.
Freese was the MVP of the 2011 NLCS and the World Series, setting a major league record with 21 postseason RBIs.
After going 1 for 2 in Game 3, he is batting .192 in the postseason, going 5 for 26 with one homer and four RBIs.
