Red Sox pitcher Workman appeals 6-game suspension

NEW YORK (AP) Boston pitcher Brandon Workman has appealed a six-game suspension imposed by Major League Baseball for throwing near the head of Tampa Bay star Evan Longoria last week.

Workman was penalized on Tuesday. He can play until the appeal process is complete, and is expected to make his scheduled start Wednesday night against the Cleveland Indians.

The penalty also included a fine.
