Report: Tigers interested in reunion with Joaquin Benoit

The Tigers let Joaquin Benoit walk in free agency last offseason, but Detroit is reportedly interested in bringing the right-handed reliever back.

Benoit took over closer's duties from Jose Valverde midway through last season. In December, he signed with San Diego on a two-year deal with a vesting option for a third if Benoit finishes 55 games for the club in 2015.

The Tigers have been using Joe Nathan as their closer this season, though he has blown five saves in 22 chances. Benoit, meanwhile, has been stellar for the Padres with an ERA of 1.30 and a WHIP of .721 in 34 games.
