Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion suffered an apparent leg injury in the first inning of Saturday night's game in Oakland and did not return, the Associated Press reported.

The injury occurred when he beat a double play ball but began limping as he reached first base. Jose Reyes scored on the play but the 31-year-old Encarnacion, an All-Star last year, had to be helped off the field by two trainers. Adam Lind came in to run for him and remained in the game at first base.

SI WIRE: Report: Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia out for season

Encarnacion has 26 home runs and 70 RBI for the Blue Jays. Further tests will likely be done on Sunday to determine whether a trip to the disabled list is needed.

Toronto was 47-41 -- second in the AL East -- going into the game Saturday night vs. the A's.
