Report: Yankees acquire pitcher Brandon McCarthy from Diamondbacks
The New York Yankees have acquired pitcher Brandon McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks for Vidal Nuno, reports FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal.
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, Arizona will pay a portion of McCarthy's salary ($4.8 million) and assignment bonus ($1 million). The move comes after the loss of CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova to the Yankees starting rotation.
In 18 starts with the Diamondbacks, McCarthy went 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA. However, his strikeout (7.6 K/9) and walk (1.6 BB/9) rates are much better than his record suggests. Nuno had a 5.42 ERA in 14 starts with the Yankees (43-43). Arizona is currently last in their division, at 36-53.
