Chicago White Sox second-half preview: Jose Abreu's record year

Verducci's Quick Pitch: Chicago White Sox

Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci previews the second half of the MLB season for the Chicago White Sox.

Chicago White Sox

Record: 45-51

Standing: 4th in AL Central

Team Leaders:

Batting Average: Jose Abreu, .292

Home Runs: Jose Abreu, 29

ERA: Jose Quintana, 3.24

The White Sox are in the cellar of the AL Central this season, and part of that has to do with injuries. Right-fielder Avisail Garcia is on the 60-day DL with a left shoulder injury. The bullpen is without Nate Jones and Matt Lindstrom, and Chris Sale, Abreu, and Adam Eaton have all spent time on the DL.

The Sox are likely in the sellers market as the July 31 trade deadline approaches; Veterans Adam Dunn, Gordon Beckham, John Sanks, and Alexei Ramirez could be sent to contenders in exchange for prospects.
