Houston Astros' second-half preview: The future is bright

Tom Verducci's Quick Pitch: Houston Astros
Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci gives his season preview for the Houston Astros and predicts where in the standings they will finish in the 2014 season.

Houston Astros

Record: 40-56

Standing: 4th in AL West

Team Leaders:

Batting Average: Jose Altuve, .335

Home Runs: George Springer, 19

ERA: Dallas Keuchel, 3.20

At 40-56, the Astros are well on their way to topping last year's 51-win total. All-Star Jose Altuve is second in the American League with a .335 batting average, and Chris Carter and George Springer have 19 home runs each, tied for tenth-most in the AL. Still, Houston's offense is the lowest-scoring in the AL.

Houston's pitchers have the second-highest team ERA in the league, despite the strong performance of All-Star Final Vote candidate Dallas Keuchel.

Springer was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in June.
