Royals owner David Glass is confident that his team can make the playoffs this season, but insists that 2014 is not a "make or break year", according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star

After a brief spell on top of the AL Central earlier this season, Kansas City has fallen to 6.5 games behind the Tigers. Despite the team's recent struggles, Glass believes that the Royals can make a run to the postseason without making a major move.

Glass noted that a lack of consistency has held the Royals back this season, but that the team still has a shot at October baseball:

"It's the inconsistency that has surprised me," Glass said. "But we're in a good position, I think, to make a run for the playoffs. If we have a good second half, there's no reason why we can't be in the playoffs."

The Royals won 86 games last year, the highest total for the franchise since 1989. Glass is confident in the upward trajectory of the franchise:

"I think we'll have a better team next year than we had this year."
