BOSTON (AP) The Red Sox have activated right fielder Shane Victorino from the 15-day disabled list and inserted him into the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Kansas City.

To make room for him, the club optioned outfielder Mookie Betts to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The 33-year old Victorino is batting sixth.

Victorino, a key part of Boston's offense last season in its run to the World Series title, appeared in just 21 games before going on the DL May 24 with a right hamstring injury. During his time on rehab assignments, he had a few setbacks with his leg and back.

Victorino is hitting just .242 with one homer and 10 RBIs after opening the season on the DL, also with the right hamstring injury.

Betts hit .235 in 10 games with one homer and two RBIs.
