Mark Teixeira is out of the lineup for the New York Yankees on Monday and could be out three or four days with a lat strain.

Manager Joe Girardi told the media Monday that Teixeira would be out, but that he thinks the first baseman will be able to avoid the disabled list.

Teixeira missed two weeks in April with a right hamstring strain. On the season, he is batting .231 with 17 home runs.

The Yankees have been hit hard by injuries this season. Starting pitchers Ivan Nova and C.C. Sabathia are out for the season. Michael Pineda is on the 60-day DL, and it is unknown if he will return this season. Rookie pitcher Masahiro Tanaka is on the DL with a partial tear of his UCL, though he is optimistic he can avoid surgery. Offseason signee Carlos Beltran has only appeared in 65 of the team's 97 games due to various injuries.
