The Rockies have placed shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on the disabled list with a strained hip flexor, the team announced Tuesday.

Utility man Josh Rutledge is starting at shortstop for Colorado in Tuesday night's game against the Nationals. Rutledge started for Tulowitzki on Sunday and Monday as well.

Tulowitzki left Saturday's game against the Pirates in the fourth inning after injuring himself running to first base.

Tulowitzki has the highest batting average, on base percentage and slugging percentage in the National League.

Colorado is tied with the Rangers for the worst record in baseball (40-59).
