Though there had been reports that Kansas City Royals starter Jason Vargas could return from the DL Sunday, Royals manager Ned Yost said he thought the prospect was "unlikely," per Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.
Vargas had an appendectomy on July 10 and has been on the DL since. The left-hander threw a 20-pitch side session Monday, but Yost says he still feels awkward when he throws.

Vargas is 8-4 with a career-low 3.31 ERA in 19 starts this season.
