The Houston Astros placed rookie outfielder George Springer on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain Wednesday. Infielder Mark Krauss has been recalled from AAA.
Springer is batting .231 with 20 home runs in 78 games. His .468 slugging percentage is second on the team, behind only Brandon Moss. Springer's 20 homers rank second among MLB rookies.
More: The inside story of how the Astros lost Brady Aiken
Springer's injury is the latest misfortune for the Astros. On July 18, the Astros became just the third team in MLB history to fail to sign the No. 1 draft pick when the team couldn't come to terms with high school pitcher Brady Aiken. On June 22, 2012 No. 1 pick Carlos Correa injured his ankle sliding into third base in a minor league game, and the Astros expect him to miss "significant" time.
