Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman will return to the DL with a hamstring injury, MLB.com's William Ladson reports.

Zimmerman left Tuesday's game against the Rockies after injuring himself running to first base.

He missed 44 games from April 12 to June 3 with a broken thumb, and this will be his second trip to the DL this season.

The Nationals have been forced to shift their lineup around all season due to a number of injuries. When Bryce Harper went down, Zimmerman played left field for the first time in his major league career. While Zimmerman was out earlier in the season, Anthony Rendon moved from second to third base. He did the same on Tuesday and is expected to continue at third until Zimmerman returns. Danny Espinosa will likely fill Rendon's spot at second base.

Zimmerman is hitting .282 and has driven in 36 runs in limited playing time.
