Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy will miss Monday's scheduled start vs. the Braves because of oblique soreness, U-T San Diego reporter Dennis Lin tweeted Sunday.

The otherwise fairly benign news is somewhat significant because it had been reported just days ago that the Padres have been in discussions with the Yankees on a potential deal that would send the 29-year-old packing for New York in exchange for two prospects. Kennedy was a first-rounder by the Yankees in 2006 and pitched for three seasons in New York. The non-waiver trade deadline is Thursday, July 31.

Kennedy is 8-9 with a 3.66 ERA in 22 starts this season. The Padres are third in the NL West heading into Sunday night's game before wrapping up the series in Atlanta on Monday.
