Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester will be scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, as the possibility remains that he could be traded.

If Lester is still with the team on Friday, he could start against the New York Yankees.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Brandon Workman will be recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket and start Wednesday’s game.

Workman is 1-3 with a 4.13 ERA in eight starts this season.

"I think in light of all the uncertainty surrounding Jon Lester, it's probably in everyone's best interest that he not make that start, so Brandon will be recalled," Farrell said, via MLB.com. "There will be a corresponding move roster-wise at some point tomorrow."
