Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has a grade three hamstring strain and could miss significant time, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com.

The Nationals have yet to confirmed Zimmerman’s health status as the team put him on the 15-day disabled list last week. A grade 3 strain usually involves a tear of the hamstring muscle.

"There is still no activity, so we may have something after the game, certainly [Tuesday] when we get here. We'll see what the doctor thinks," Nationals manager Matt Williams said. "He has a pulled hammy and he is not doing anything strength-wise at this point. So it's just kind of a checkup."

Zimmerman is hitting .282 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 53 games this season for the Nationals, who are a half-game ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East.  He's missed time earlier this season with a broken thumb and a shoulder injury.
