Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer could be out for up to six weeks with a non-displaced fracture of the third finger on his right hand, reports Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.

Hosmer will more than likely go on the disabled list.

Hosmer, 24, thinks he suffered the injury July 20 against the Boston Red Sox when he was hit on the hand by a fastball from Jon Lester, who was traded to the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.

Hosmer is hitting .268 with six homers and 46 RBI in 103 games for the Royals, who begin their weekend series against Oakland four games behind the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central.  The Royals are also 3.5 games out of a wild card spot.
