Report: Twins to activate Joe Mauer

Joe Mauer will join the Minnesota Twins Monday after missing five weeks with a strained right oblique, according to a report from Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The Twins plan to activate Mauer from the 15-day DL, and he will meet the team in Houston.

Joe Mauer will join the Minnesota Twins Monday after missing five weeks with a strained right oblique, according to a report from Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The Twins plan to activate Mauer from the 15-day DL, and he will meet the team in Houston. 

The six-time All-Star and former MVP is hitting a career low .271 this season, with a .695 OPS and just two home runs. Mauer played four games at Class-A Cedar Rapids last week as part of his rehab assignmentand hit .400.

Though Mauer won three Gold Gloves at catcher from 2008-2010, the Twins have been moving him to first base and designated hitter to ease the strain on his body and avoid injuries. This season, Mauer hasn't caught a single game. 

The Twins are 52-64 and in last place in the A.L. Central.
