More: Will pitching injuries sink the Tigers?
Though Mauer won three Gold Gloves at catcher from 2008-2010, the Twins have been moving him to first base and designated hitter to ease the strain on his body and avoid injuries. This season, Mauer hasn't caught a single game.
The Twins are 52-64 and in last place in the A.L. Central.
