New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said the team expects third baseman Alex Rodriguez back next season, reports Michael O'Keeffe of the New York Daily News. Rodriguez is serving a 162-game suspension.

Rodriguez was originally suspended by MLB for 211 games last year, but that was reduced to the 162, one-season ban. The suspension includes any 2014 playoff games. Rodriguez was suspended for his role in the Biogenesis scandal, in which Rodriguez and several other players were found in the records of a Miami anti-aging clinic suspected of supplying athletes with performance-enhancing drugs.

Other players suspended in connection with the Biogenesis scandal included Ryan Braun, Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta, Everth Cabrera and Jesus Montero.

Last season, Rodriguez played just 44 games. The 39-year-old hasn't played more than 138 games in a season since 2007. The Yankees owe Rodriguez $61 million from 2015-17.
