DETROIT (AP) The New York Yankees have reached a minor league deal with outfielder Chris Young, who played 88 games this season with the crosstown Mets.

The 30-year-old hit .205 for the Mets before his release this month. He's shown power at times in his career, hitting 32 home runs in 2007 with Arizona, but he's always struggled to get on base.

The minor league season is winding down, but manager Joe Girardi says it's not his call whether Young will join the Yankees in September.

Young, who has better numbers against left-handers over the course of his career, could potentially provide value to the Yankees as a pinch-hitter.
