Detroit Tigers announce rotation for ALDS, Max Scherzer to start Game 1

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus announced Tuesday that Max Scherzer would start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Orioles in Baltimore.

He also announced that Justin Verlander will start Game 2, followed by David Price in Game 3, and Rick Porcello in Game 4. Games 3 and 4 will be in Detroit. 

Anibal Sanchez, who did not pitch from Aug. 8 until Sept. 26 due to a pectoral injury, will pitch out of the bullpen.

Verlander, who won the AL MVP award in 2011, has an ERA of 4.54 this season, with a record of 15-12 and 159 strikeouts. He has allowed a American League-high 104 earned runs this season.

In Verlander's last two starts, he gave up just two runs in 15.1 innings.

Price pitched in the Tigers' last game of the season against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, going 7.1 innings and allowing just 4 hits. He did not give up a run.

Verlander, Scherzer and Price have all won Cy Young awards during their careers.
