Cardinals GM: Wainwright should have normal offseason after elbow exam
St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak is optimistic that Adam Wainwright will have a "normal offseason" after an examination on the pitcher's elbow last Friday, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Wainwright, 33, acknowledged in August that he was dealing with dead arm. The 6-foot-7 righthander pitched well in September, allowing one run or fewer in four of his five starts.
Wainwright didn't have as much success in the postseason, with only one of his three starts lasting at least five innings as the Cardinals fell to the San Francisco Giants in the National League Championship Series.
Over 227 innings this season, his ninth in the league, Wainwright posted a 2.38 ERA with 179 strikeouts, 50 walks and a 1.031 WHIP en route to his third All-Star appearance. Wainwright missed the 2011 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
