Yankees trade Martin Prado to Marlins for Nathan Eovaldi

The Yankees and Marlins have completed a five-player trade, the Marlins announced Friday.

The Yankees will acquire pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, first baseman Garrett Jones and 22-year-old pitching prospect Domingo German. The Marlins will receive infielder Martin Prado and pitcher David Phelps.

Jack Curry of the YES Network was first to report the teams were close to a deal. 

The Yankees also acquired relief pitcher Gonzalez Germen from the Mets for cash, in a separate trade, the team announced. 

Prado, who can play second base, third base and left field, was acquired by the Yankees at the July trade deadline. He batted .282 in 143 games last season.

Phelps, 27, has played three seasons with the Yankees, alternating between the bullpen and starting rotation. He was 5-5 with a 4.38 ERA in 113 innings last season.

Eovaldi, 24, was 6-14 last season and gave up a National League-high 223 hits in 199.2 innings.

Jones, 33, was the Marlins' starting first baseman last season. He batted .246 with a .411 slugging percentage. 

Trading Prado would allow the Yankees to start either Jose Pirela or highly-regarded prospect Rob Refsnyder at second base. Refsnyder batted .300 in 77 Triple-A games last season.
