Worley, Pirates argue cases at salary arbitration hearing

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) The Pittsburgh Pirates went to arbitration with their second player this winter, asking a three-person panel to give pitcher Vance Worley a $2 million salary rather than his request for $2.45 million.

The 27-year-old right-hander was 8-4 with a 2.85 ERA last year in 17 starts and one relief appearance. He made $527,500.

Worley was traded from Philadelphia to Minnesota in December 2012 with right-hander Trevor May for outfielder Ben Revere, and then was sold to the Pirates last March.

Sylvia Skratek, Phillip LaPorte and Margaret Brogan heard arguments Monday and are expected to issue a decision Tuesday.

Owners have won three of four decisions, including the Pirates' victory over second baseman Neil Walker, who will earn $8 million instead of his $9 million request.
