Santana and Lindor homer for Indians in 4-2 win over Padres

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) Carlos Santana hit his second home run of the spring and Francisco Lindor had an inside-the-park shot to lead the Cleveland Indians past the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Sunday.

Trevor Bauer became the first Indians pitcher to go five innings this spring. He allowed a run-scoring double to Matt Kemp and a home run to Wil Myers, his second.

Bauer gave up an unearned run in the first after Myers reached on a throwing error by third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall following a 10-pitch at-bat. Myers trotted home on Kemp's double.

''That was a tough way to start the game,'' Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. ''He continues to pound the strike zone. He's been good. Very impressive.''

Kemp is batting .412 this spring, his first with the Padres. Myers also hit two doubles and scored twice.

David Murphy had two hits, including an RBI single that put the Indians ahead.

Ian Kennedy pitched three innings for San Diego and gave up the inside-the-park homer to Lindor.

''He threw all of his pitches. All and all it was a good outing,'' Padres manager Bud Black said.

Lindor's fly to deep center field landed on the warning track in front of Myers, who was fighting the wind and sun. The high bounce off the wall allowed the 21-year-old shortstop prospect to easily beat the throw home with a headfirst slide.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Padres: San Diego C Tim Federowicz will miss three to six months with a torn meniscus. ... Third base coach Glenn Hoffman will not be on the field for two to three weeks. He had surgery on his left knee Thursday.

Indians: Michael Brantley was the latest Indians player to be sent home with an illness. Brandon Moss is back in the lineup after missing two games with flu-like symptoms. RHP Carlos Carrasco was scratched from his start on Saturday with an illness. He threw on the side Sunday morning. ''Luckily, it seems to be a 24-hour thing,'' Francona said. ''We only have 48 more guys to get it.''

STARTING TIME

Padres: Kennedy made his third appearance and second start of the spring. If there are no injuries, he is scheduled to pitch the fourth game of the season, the home opener against the Giants. Kennedy gave up three runs in 1 2-3 innings against the Giants on March 10.

''It was much better this time,'' Kennedy said. ''I'm coming around. The last time I was working on locating the fastball. Today I was able to use the changeup more. I have to pace myself. I don't want to be too good, too soon.''

Indians: Bauer allowed one earned run. He threw 10 pitches to the first hitter he faced, Myers.

''Other than the first inning, where I threw 23 pitches, I had quick innings,'' Bauer said. ''My only goal this spring is to throw more strikes. As you prove to hitters you're going to throw strikes, you can get them to swing and use the percentages.''
