David Ross hits 1 of 3 2-run homers for Cubs in win

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) David Ross, Arismendy Alcantara and Anthony Giansanti each hit a two-run homer as the Cubs rallied to beat the Chicago rival White Sox 10-7 Friday.

Junior Lake had a two-run double for the Cubs.

Jose Abreu and Alexei Ramirez each had three hits. Abreu raised his average to .483, while Micah Johnson, who went 2 for 4, raised his average to .467. Avisail Garcia and Melky Cabrera also each had two hits.

The White Sox led 4-2 after five innings.

Cubs starter Travis Wood gave up four runs and 11 hits in 4 1-3 innings. Jason Motte and Joe Ortiz threw scoreless innings in relief.

White Sox starter Hector Noesi had more success, giving up two runs and two hits in 4 1-3 innings.

STARTING TIME

Cubs: Wood, who is competing for the final spot in the rotation, struck out two and didn't walk a batter. Wood said he was leaving his curveball up, ''and it wasn't as sharp as it needed to be. But that's something minor we can work on.''

White Sox: Noesi, who is expected to be a member of the rotation, walked one and struck out five. He said all his pitches were effective. ''I can't wait until the season starts,'' he said.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Cubs: Jon Lester will miss a scheduled start Saturday because ''he is just going through a little bit of a dead arm period,'' manager Joe Maddon said. ''More than likely, he will not miss the start after that. But we wanted to be very cautious with it right now. And at this point it does not impact opening day.''

Lester is not in pain and has gone through this issue in the past, Maddon said.

White Sox: Chris Sale threw a bullpen session Friday. ''He had a real good day today,'' said Rick Hahn, the team's senior vice president and general manger. ''He was pretty much, for the most part, full bore. ... He remains on track to not miss significant time.''

Sale had been slated to be the opening day starter but injured his foot on Feb. 27. Jeff Samardzija is expected to start the season opener April 6.

EATON SIGNS FOR 5 YEARS

Outfielder Adam Eaton and the White Sox agreed to a $23.5 million, five-year contract that includes team options for 2020 and `21. Eaton hit .300 with 26 doubles, 10 triples, one homer, 35 RBIs, 76 runs and 15 steals last season, his first with the White Sox following a trade from Arizona.

BAEZ STRUGGLING

Javier Baez' spring struggles continued Thursday night when he struck out four times. He is 3 for 30 with 11 strikeouts.

Baez has been playing second base well, but the Cubs have to weigh whether starting him on the big league club after camp breaks could do him more harm than good, Maddon said.
