Dodgers-Rockies game postponed due to rain

DENVER (AP) Wilin Rosario was ready to show off his improved form at first base. He may have to wait a couple more days for the chance - snow, yes, snow is in the forecast.

Rain that has hovered around the Denver area for a week turned heavy again Saturday night, forcing a postponement of the Colorado Rockies' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The teams are scheduled to play Sunday afternoon but wet weather is forecast through the weekend. The Denver area is under a winter storm warning that could bring 5-10 inches of snow starting late Saturday.

''I've never seen weather like this in Denver,'' Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. ''I've lived here 21, 22 years and I've never seen it stick around for a week.''

This is the third rainout at Coors Field this week. Monday and Tuesday's games against the Arizona Diamondbacks were washed out. The teams played a doubleheader Wednesday.

The Rockies also had their game April 26 against San Francisco postponed because of rain.

''It tough to play baseball in cold weather,'' Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado said. ''It's hard to stay lose between games, because you are ticked off about the weather. But it is what it is, but the Dodgers have to have to deal with this, too.''

Arenado would have thrown to Rosario at first base had the weather not gotten in the way. Rosario spent two weeks working on his defense in Triple-A Albuquerque before being recalled Friday. Weiss said he received good reports on Rosario's play for the Isotopes.

''He's still a work in progress,'' Weiss said. ''He's learning a new position, he's embraced it. He's attacking that with the same enthusiasm he does everything else. He brings a lot of positive energy. It's a tough season for him, relatively speaking, but his attitude doesn't change.''

The Dodgers and Rockies are hoping the weather changes for the final day of the series. Los Angeles won a 2-1, rain-shortened game Friday night that included a 64-minute delay before the first pitch and another delay of 1 hour, 40 minutes in the top of the sixth before game was called.

Saturday's game was called 2 hours before the scheduled start and will be made up when the Dodgers are back in Colorado.

''You don't like to play the doubleheader later in the year, but the one thing nobody wants to do is lose a starter,'' manager Don Mattingly said. ''That puts you in a tailspin. I'd rather do that than play three innings and lose a starter.''

TRAINER'S ROOM

Dodgers: OF Yasiel Puig will get an MRI on Sunday on his injured left hamstring. Puig aggravated the injury during a rehab assignment Friday. He was expected to rejoin the team Monday if everything went well with his recovery.

UP NEXT

Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw (1-2) is pushed back to Sunday when he will go for his 100th career victory. He's 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his last four starts at Coors Field.

Rockies: LHP Jorge De La Rosa (0-2) got an extra day of rest before going for his first win of 2015. He has allowed five earned runs in his last two starts after giving up nine runs in two innings of his season debut.
