LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher Yasmani Grandal on the seven-day concussion disabled list Saturday and called up Austin Barnes from Triple-A Oklahoma City to serve as A.J. Ellis' backup.

Grandal, who came to the Dodgers from San Diego in December in the Matt Kemp trade, was taken out of Friday night's 2-1 victory over the Padres after four innings for precautionary reasons. He was struck on the right side of the head by the follow-through of Yangervis Solarte's bat in the third inning, then took a foul tip off the mask by Kemp in the fourth.

Grandal is batting .291 with a .403 on-base percentage, four home runs and 17 RBI in 33 games this season.

Barnes, who was born in nearby Riverside and played his college ball at Arizona State, is making his first appearance on an active major league roster after batting .290 with five doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI in 29 games at Triple-A. He was acquired in a seven-player trade with Miami on Dec. 10.
