The Cincinnnati Reds have placed catcher Devin Mesoraco on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced on Monday.

In a corresponding move, the team activated left-handed pitcher Manny Parra.

Mesoraco hasn't caught since April 12 while dealing with a hip impingement but has continued to contribute at the plate. In 51 plate appearances this season, Mesoraco has batted .178 with zero home runs and two RBIs.

He recently had a setback with the injury.

Last season the 26-year-old hit .273 with 25 home runs and 80 RBI and earned his first All-Star nod. In January, the Reds signed Mesoraco to a contract extension worth $28 million over four years.

If Mesoraco elects to undergo surgery, it could sideline him for the remainder of the season.

Cincinnati currently sits in fourth place in the National League Central with an 18-25 record. The Reds open a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
