Royals catcher Salvador Perez leads AL batters in early All-Star balloting
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez leads all American League players in All-Star balloting, according to data released by Major League Baseball on Tuesday.
Perez has 1.4 million votes, almost twice as many as second-place catcher Stephen Vogt of the Oakland Athletics.
Many of Perez's Kansas City teammates are also among the top vote-getters at their positions. Third baseman Mike Moustakas, shortstop Alcides Escobar and outfielder Lorenzo Cain all lead their respective positions in voting. First baseman Eric Hosmer, second baseman Omar Infante and designated hitter Kendrys Morales are in second place. Outfielder Alex Gordon is third, behind only Cain and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout. Alex Rios is sixth among outfielders, despite having been out with an injury since April 13.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has the third-most votes of any player. New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez, in his first year back from his season-long suspension, is a distant third at his position.
