Houston Astros shortstop Marwin Gonzalez robbed Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado of a hit with a stellar defensive play in the fifth inning of Monday's game.

With two outs and a runner on third, Machado hit a sharp ground ball up the middle. Gonzalez ranged to his left and snagged the ball but didn't have time to set his feet and throw out Machado at first.

Gonzalez, standing on the edge of the outfield grass, spun and threw the ball to first base while falling down. The ball bounced several times but was perfectly on target and in time to get Machado.

The play prevented a run from scoring and kept Baltimore's lead at 1–0.
