Rays put Odorizzi on DL with oblique strain

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) The Tampa Bay Rays have put starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

The move was announced before Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Odorizzi, 4-5 with a 2.47 ERA in 12 games this season, left his previous start Friday night at Seattle in the fifth inning with left side tightness.

The right-hander says he still feels the injury ''a little bit'', but hasn't ruled out playing catch by the end of the week.

Odorizzi joins Rays' rotation members Alex Cobb and Matt Moore on the DL.

Cobb is out for the season after having elbow ligament replacement surgery last month, and Moore is on a minor league rehab assignment following elbow surgery last year.

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria was out of the lineup for a third consecutive game due to a sore left wrist.

Longoria hit in an indoor cage and is ''fairly confident'' that he will be in Wednesday night's lineup. The slugger admits that he may have to play with some soreness, but it's something he will deal with.

Center fielder Desmond Jennings, out since April 26, will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday and is out indefinitely.
