Major League Baseball's trade deadline (Friday, July 31 at 4 p.m. ET) is approaching quickly, which means it’s time to gather the latest rumors and buzz. Which players might be on the move? Which teams are looking to buy, and which teams are trying to sell? As the deadline nears, take a look at some of the rumors swirling around Major League Baseball below.

July 29

• The Phillies have agreed to trade lefthander Cole Hamels to the Rangers, reports MLB.com’s TR Sullivan. The Phillies will receive a variety of prospects in exchange.

• The trade that was reportedly agreed upon between the Mets and Brewers for Milwaukee centerfielder Carlos Gomezis off, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Wednesday night.

• The four main teams in on Tigers lefthander David Price are the Dodgers, Giants, Blue Jays and Yankees, reports CBS Sports’s Jon Heyman. All four teams have been in contact with the Tigers.

• The Mets have not circled back with the Padres on leftfielder Justin Upton since the teams hit an impasse earlier this week, reports CBS Sports's Jon Heyman.

• The Marlins agreed to send Mat Latos and Michael Morse to the Dodgers for prospects on Wednesday morning, but a third team is believed to be the final landing place for Morse, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark. That third team is the Braves, reports Fox Sports's Ken Rosenthal, and lefthander Alex Wood would go to the Dodgers if the deal is completed. Braves reliever Jim Johnson would also go to the Dodgers, and Morse and a compensation pick would go to the Braves, reports Rosenthal.

• The Marlins and Dodgers deal is on hold over medicals, reports the Chicago Sun-Times’s Gordon Wittenmyer.

• The Dodgers could still pursue a trade for a second starting pitcher, but acquiring Latos will release pressure and allow them to wait for the right deal, reports Stark.

• The Yankees and Mariners discussed a number of players in a potential deal, but it appears those talks have cooled, reports the New York Daily News's Mark Feinsand.

• The Giants are reportedly interested in trading for Tigers ace David Price. Detroit has brought up Giants minor-league pitchers Joe Biagini, Tyler Beede, Keury Mella and Kelvin Marte, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports. The Tigers also like Blue Jays prospects Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd and Anthony Alford, Morosi adds

• The Astros are moving closer to a trade with the Padres for a pitcher, though nothing appears imminent, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chroniclereports

• The Tigers have changed course and decided to be sellers, reports Stark. They will field offers on David Price and the most involved bidders are thought to be the Cubs, Yankees, Giants, Dodgers and Astros, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.

• MLB trade tracker: Keep up with every move

• The Phillies were in Texas on Monday specifically to scout Yankees righthander Ivan Nova, reports the New York Daily News's Mark Feinsand. However, Tigers lefthander David Price is still considered a more likely target for the Yankees given Hamels' contract.

• The Rangers designated lefthander Wandy Rodriguez for assignment on Wednesday after he allowed seven runs in one inning to the Yankees on Tuesday.

• The Padres have expressed interest in Cubs prospect Javier Baez, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The two teams have discussed a trade, Heyman reports, and Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner could be a potential fit for the Cubs in exchange for Baez.

• The Yankees aren't willing to trade shortstop prospect Jorge Mateo for Craig Kimbrel, Heyman reports. The market for Kimbrel is dwindling, so there is a possibility he does not get traded, Heyman says. The Yankees were willing to pay the remaining $28 million of Kimbrel's contract, but the Padres want high-ceiling prospects in return for any trade, so the deal between the two teams fell apart.

• The chances of Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez being traded range from 30% to 70%, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. Colorado would need a solid offer to decide to trade him. If Gonzalez is traded, the Mets are not interested, Crasnick says.

• The Braves are garnering significant interest in pitcher Jim Johnson, who has a 2.25 ERA and is owed only $1.6 million this season, reports Crasnick. Teams are also interested in A.J. Pierzynski and Jonny Gomes, though Johnson is the most likely to be traded this week, Crasnick reports

Cubs manager Joe Maddon met with shortstop Starlin Castro after Tuesday's game to tell him he would not be traded, reports Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. “Just relax and play,” Maddon told Castro, who is batting .163 in 22 games this month and is not in the Cubs' lineup on Wednesday.

• The Padres are about to get "super active" in the trade market and could be prepared to make a "huge deal," reports Stark. All of their starting pitchers have been reported as available for trade. By flooding the market with pitchers who are under long-term contracts, including James Shields, Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross, San Diego has the potential to impact the return the Phillies get for Hamels, Stark says.

• The Blue Jays have inquired about a long list of starting pitchers, including Cashner, Ross, Yovani Gallardo, Mike Leake, Mike Fiers and Dan Haren, reports Crasnick. Toronto would also be very interested in Price if Detroit decides to trade him, Crasnick reports

• The Astros are continuing to look for a starting pitcher, an outfielder and a reliever, Crasnick reports. They are interested in Jeff Samardzija and Ross, however Samardzija may not be traded at all. The Astros are also monitoring the availability of relievers Craig Kimbrel, Joaquin Benoit and Francisco Rodriguez, Crasnick reports

• The Angels had interest in Tigers leftfielder Yoenis Cespedes, but “couldn’t wait for the Tigers to decide on their direction,” reports the Detroit Free Press’s Anthony Fenech. The Angels acquired outfieldersDavid DeJesus and David Murphy in separate trades on Tuesday to shore up their depth in left field.

• After acquiring closer Jonathan Papelbon from the Phillies on Tuesday, the Nationals are open to making another move to upgrade their bench before the trade deadline, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports. The team wants to evaluate Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman, who were activated from the DL on Tuesday, before making a decision on an additional trade.
