The Miami Marlins have placed ace Jose Fernandez on the 15-day disabled list with a right biceps strain, according to Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald

Right-hander Justin Nicolino has been recalled from Triple A New Orleans to take Fernandez's spot in the rotation. A possible return date for Fernandez remains unknown.

In his seven starts on the year, Fernandez has posted a 2.30 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched. The right-hander threw 76 pitches in five innings last week before complaining of stiffness in his right shoulder.

Fernandez pitched in just eight games in 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Miami currently has the worst record in baseball at 44-68.
