Dodgers' Vin Scully undecided on returning for next season
Los Angeles Dodgers play-by-play announcer Vin Scully is undecided on his return for next season, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Scully, 87, has been with the Dodgers for 66 seasons. He told the Times “he does not want to commit too soon” to a 67th year of broadcasting.
The play-by-play man made news last week when he had a cold and asked for his broadcast not to be simulcast on the radio. The small decision raised questions about Scully's future.
Scully currently does play-by-play for most Dodger home games and select radio games on SportsNet LA. The first three innings of the broadcast are typically simulcast on radio.
Scully, who won the Ford Frick award in 1982 and a life achievement Emmy in 1995, began calling Dodgers games in 1950, when the franchise was still in Brooklyn. In the 1960s, he turned down an offer to do play-by-play for his hometown New York Yankees, cementing himself a franchise favorite.
Scully has since become a legend in both Dodger and MLB history.
