Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus will return for the 2016 season, general manager Al Avila announced Saturday.

After it was reported he would be fired at season’s end, the Tigers said on Sept. 11 that they were evaluating Ausmus.

In two years as manager in Detroit, Ausmus has a 162–153 record. He led the Tigers to the 2014 ALDS, where they were swept in three games by the Orioles. He has one year remaining on the contract he signed with the team in 2013.

Despite the team’s success in 2014, Ausmus has been blamed by many for a disappointing 2015 season after the Tigers were projected to contend for a title.

The Tigers are in last place in the AL Central with a 72–81 record, the second-worst record in the league.

They will play their final game of the season on Oct. 4 against the White Sox.
